Memory of an Elephant!!!

This 2 year old went with her Mother to a Mall in Mumbai for a de-stressing visit to do window shopping. The mother took Vaanya to Liliput and she immediately took fancy to a dress and just wanted to buy the same. "I WANT IT" seemed to be the chant and insistent one at that.
The mother thought about it and wanted to teach the value of money so said that she did not have the money and therefore she would work hard earn the money and then buy Vaanya the dress.

6 Months pass by and Bhavana goes for a residential programme at Agra. She decides to take Vaanya along and Mummy( Grandmom) is roped in to look after Vaanya. The two spend a lot of time in the hotel and bond. They fight over the remote and what programmes to watch and Vaanya ultimately gets her grandmom to see Tom and Jerry umpteen number of times. To again de-stress the Grand Mom decides to visit a mall and take her granddaughter along with her. They spend some time and return back in the evening.
When Bhavana returns to the room in the evening she is aghast for the grandaughter has ended up fleecing her Grandmom and got her self a "party dress". It's the same one which was rejected about 6 months back. The mother asks her mother to explain and the story goes something like this..we went to this mall and we saw quite a few shops before we entered a liliput store. Vaanya goes inside and is trying a few dresses till the time she spots this one. As soon as she spots this one she wants to try this out and insists that the same be bought for her because she likes it so much and her mother has to work very hard to earn money to buy the dress. The Grandmom tries to offer her some other dress but Vaaanya has made up her mind..impressed by the decision making ability and concern for her mother Grandmom buys the dress.
Bhavana is amazed at the transaction and shocked that the exact dress which was available in a store has been bought six months hence ...and here we were thinking only Elephants had that kind of memory.

Tiger Spotting!!

There was a huge anticipation of seeing the tiger on our recent Corbett yatra . We tried to assess what would be good time to go for which safari and accordingly booked ourselves on a Elephant and a Jeep safari. 4 adults and Vaanya atop Lachmi went for the safari. Swaying and rocking with a rhythm Lachmi was in her elements and was being goaded by Mubeen ( the mahout ) to get into the forest. Ominous with dense green trees and huge overgrowth we were all awed and afraid at the same time with Mother Nature and at the helplessness of the situation . We tried our hand at nervous laughter and jokes however returned back after seeing some spotted deer only. The next day morning again everyone awoke to a cold wintry dawn and got into a open jeep all wrapped up for a glimpse of the tiger . Encounters of the nether world

(2005 - names have been changed - true incident) It was a lazy Sunday evening. The thought of another week starting off was itself dreadful and sending the shivers. Around 8.30 p.m in the night I got a call on my mobile. “ Hello , Gaurav here” , Stranger : Is this Gaurav Gaurav : Yes Stranger : Is this Gaurav Suri working for MetLife ? I was grappling with the name and trying to figure out what could be the context. Obviously there was a bereavement in the family and therefore I checked on the details . The person mentioned worked for one of the radio channels and had a massive cardiac arrest at the age of 29. He had left a mother aged 65 behind him. Serenity - orange county coorg

( Notes from a marketing teams off-site) 24th June, 2005. After a late night of perfecting our business skills, communication (sign language) and display of talent it was a onerous task to wake up in the morning (dawn) to experience nature’s benevolence on Coorg. Wake up calls to all rooms ensured that 6 out of the 25 of us turned up for the “forest trek” The detour around the lake and into the plantation started with some education of coffee plants. Rustica- Strength , Arabica- Flavour, how chicory has huge doses of caffeine. The great hill rongo, long tail,pie hornbill and other birds were introduced by the orinthoologist in the naturalist ( our guide- Ganesh). He quoted liberally from Dr Salim Ali’s work. The names were difficult to remember in the intense 1.5 hours familiarization of nature. We also discovered the names of our RMA’s as they resembled the jungle blabberer ( seven sisters).
